Blank Realm LP Launch at The Primitive

This was a great night. A really solid lineup. Big hot and sweaty. The rest of the crowd were worse.

Martyr Privates - Live @ The Primitive - 12 Jan 2013

I also heard a few songs from Screaming Match and they are someone to look out for. I'd also like to thank Blank Realm for having tshirts in XL that are actually XL. I really like the ones I can wear and not have to give to my son.

Dollarbar and Jeremy Neale at The Powerhouse

Dollarbar touring some new songs and playing all the hits.  Jeremy Neale creating new hits.

I have been a bad boy apparently

so much so that Mediafire will disconnect me if too many more notices come from people saying that content is theirs and theirs alone.  So far this week I have had two notices about Pains of Being Pure At Heart and Rodrigo y Gabriela. They don't tell you how many strikes you get but I won't take the chance.

As the primary intent of the blog is to provide access to recordings of Brisbane artists I have decided to remove recordings of any artist whose soul I imagine to be owned by faceless men in boardrooms.  I have a limited imagination so I probably have missed a few.  I was actually surprised at how few there were given the almost 1200 recordings I do have though there will be more in the Megaupload recordings.

The removals are almost entirely non-Australian artists, not that Australian artists are immune.

The following sets no longer reside on Mediafire.  They may exist elsewhere.

If you are one of these artists and you are happy to have the recording hosted let me know and I won't believe you.

Meanwhile I have not stopped going out and recording but I have spent less time in front of the computer and more in front of the wife.  That's about to change; I am about to catch up with the posting.  As a bonus I have a new phone, a Nokia 808 Pureview which takes amazing photos but more importantly amazing video with great sound like this one I prepared earlier of Pete forgetting the words to Your Pretty Face.  These will become a regular feature I hope.

Thank you for your patience.

Bee Mask, Rights Wild, and Secret Birds at The Judy

Room40 has done it again. A really strong line up and more mainstream than most. I honestly expected Bee Mask to drop the bass at any time and it would have worked well.

Secret Birds - Live @ The Judy - 14 June 2012

Rights Wild - Live @ The Judy - 14 June 2012

Bee Mask - Live @ The Judy - 14 June 2012

The Bee Mask recording has been removed at the request of the artist. Go and see hime whrn he is in town. It's worth it.

Texas Tea and The Stress of Leisure at X&Y Bar

Been meaning to catch The Stress Of Leisure for a while and managed on Sat night. Nice pop rock stuff. Texas Tea were great as usual. "I don't write no sad songs" is my song of the year so far. If I can ever coax the video of that song from my stupid iPhone 4s I will post it.

Intervention 7

Interventions run by Safe Hands in out of the way places featuring battery operated experimental music. I love this about Brisbane. You probably get it in any town but I ain't in any town.

Ffehro - Live @ York Hollow - 16 June 2012

Rights Wild - Live @ York Hollow - 16 June 2012

Superjam - Live @ York Hollow - 16 June 2012

Superjam is basically the string player of Fferon who arrived late and didn't play with his friend starting a noise after everyone else finished then most of the nights player joining in.

Black Bear Lodge and Ric's just like the old days

Except it was the Troubadour then. Back and forth between the two to catch 5 sets in one night. All free.

In which I farewell Hits and other things

Started at The Waiting Room and really enjoyed The Late Greaty Russian Revolution then Bottlecock.

The Late Great Russian Revolution - Live @ The Waiting Room - 13 Apr 2012

Bottlecock - Live @ The Waiting Room - 13 Apr 2012

Then into Woodland now known as The Log Cabin to see Hits before they take off to destroy Europe. Was talking to Tamara when Gregor ambled on stage to set up his drums. I said it should be fun going through customs etc with Gregor in tow. How we laughed. As the band started and Dick appeared I realized just how much fun it would be. For those who don't know the band, Dick is barely acting in the video and nor is Gregor [the man on the toilet].

Elbow at The Tivoli

This was one of the most enjoyable concerts I have been to. The Tivoli is a small hall and it was packed. The crowd was having a good time and the band was enjoying the crowd. Even the sing-a-longs were done well.
The recording has some of the drum/bass buzz of the Dirty Three recording but not as bad.

Elbow - Live @ The Tivoli - 24 Mar 2012

Dirty Three at The Tivoli

How good are these guys. The banter alone makes it worth the entrance price.

A warning to audiophiles; there is a buzz in the bass/drum sound that I cannot get rid of. It is a little annoying but the recording can still be enjoyed. If anyone knows about this stuff and would like to try cleaning it, please email me and I'll make a loss free copy available.

First Post

Actually First Recording. You may have missed it if you never visited LastFM or There Is Always A Past but this is the first ever recording I made the day after I got my mics and pre-amp from the USA plugged them into the $99 MD Recorder wandered around the house asking people to shout at me. Off I go to the last ever [so far] ZZZ Market Day and into a shed where a local all girl reggae/ska band Bertha Control was playing. Picked some random settings that made the levels not peak out and pressed record [twice]. Got this

Bertha Control - Single Track - Market Day-2006-10-21 My First Recording

Outside, earphones in and yeah it sounds OK. I don't think I changed the settings for 2 years.

A great way to start recording local bands and on the day I got some of the cream of Brisbane's bands at the time.
