Undead Apes Do Brisbands

First night of the Undead Apes January residency at The Waiting Room and they do A to E. Why not.

Undead Apes - Live @ The Waiting Room - 05 Jan 2012

Last night of the Undead Apes residency at The Waiting Room was an All Killer, No Filler run through Brisbane power pop from the last 10? years. The band was without Simon for the night. The sound recording is uncomfortable listening so unless you are a fan don't bother. The video sound is better. Got some of the set on video and the sound wasn't distorted so here they are. The Set list is as follows

Apple Tree - The Melniks
Certifiable - Dollar Bar
Big Pineapple - Extra Foxx
Pleased To Meet You - Sekiden
You Smelt It You Dealt It - Roshambo
Never Let You Go - The Sips

Jonesin' For A Chromin' - R.A.D.

Queen Slipper/Slave Lay-by - Dollar Bar
Pinball Summer - Sekiden

It's All Good - Nice Wig Ted

Undead Apes - Live @ The Waiting Room - 26 Jan 2012

Also Turnpike played. The sound recording is OK and there are two videos of their performance.

And finally Arcola played their last show with Ben Dougherty leaving to concentrate on his commitments to Texas Tea. Missed the first couple of songs.

Harmony and Turnpike

At the Waiting Room not surprisingly any more. Came to catch Harmony in the middle of Merenoise Meltdown [coming soon to a post near you] and got Turnpike as a bonus. Harmony are really great. I am looking forward to seeing them at Golden Plains in March.

Never did make it back to the Meltdown and so missed Guitar Wolf. But I did see Harmony.

Future Of The Left

I have no idea why but the FOTL set from The Zoo did not turn out.  The Turnpike set was fine as you will hear.  But I did get the Tym Guitars in-store set which was wonderful plus a couple of videos.  Enjoy

Future Of The Left - Live @ Tym Guitars In Store - 6-Dec-11

This was the best set I have ever heard from Turnpike.  That seems to be the opinion of most Turnpike fans I have spoken to.  The sound was excellent [Thanks Cam] Adam found the mic almost every time and the band was tight and enjoying themselves.  Turnpike has the best banter.

This FOTL video is from The Zoo show and gives you an idea of what you missed.

God Hates Brisbane

Awesome. Just awesome. No Anchor are probably my favourite Brisbane band right now. Every time I hear them they get better.

The whole lineup is great. Get amongst it. If you don't know the bands they are all loud and/or heavy except maybe Cured Pink who is loud and beaty.

*Room Of Inordinate Awesome *

8:30 The Entire Asian Population
9:30 Die On Planes
10:30 Cured Pink
11:30 Turnpike

*Room Of Glacial Abyss *

9:00 Ambrose Chapel
10:00 White Bears of Norway
11:00 AXXONN
12:00 No Anchor

Turnpike and Sweet Dreams

Went to see Abdoujaparov but had to leave early. I am seeing them again this afternoon at Burst City so they will be here later.

But great support sets from Turnpike and Sweet Dreams

FantasmaBAnco used my audio over her video. The result is quite good.

Del Toro say Goodbye For A While

Adam, the guitarist, is off to Norway for two years so he had a party at the Hanger.

Carl is guitarist with The Narwhals. Tonight he and his acoustic guitar played alone. Some quite beautiful passages here.
Carl Monticone - Live @ The Hanger - 10 Apr 2010

Threepiece No Anchor is becoming the heaviest band in Brisbane. In this set you can actually hear the vocals. But on the downside the Fender is a little louder than the Rickenbacker but could be just my ears.
No Anchor - Live @ The Hanger - 10 Apr 2010

I have a t-shirt. Says "Play Music / Turnpike"
Turnpike - Live @ The Hanger - 10 Apr 2010

This is why we will miss this band. Thanks for a great party Adam. See you in a couple of years.

Scul Hazzard Returns

to Brisbane after 2 years in London showing the locals how to make noise. And boy did they get even better while they were away. Steven Smiths guitar work seems much more focused and the sound is cleaner and more powerful for it.

Great support sets from Quiet Steps, Kitchens Floor, and Turnpike. Kitchens Floor I have seen a couple of times now and each time I am initially terrified they are going to collapse in a heap in front of me but each time they warm up to it and if they eventually do in fact collapse in a heap it's been worth the ride. Does that make sense? This is why I am an accountant, not a writer.

Vampillia and Turnpike

Not quite the last 2009 show. But one of my favourite bands, Turnpike, supporting Vampillia, A Japanese barrel of laughs. Vampires, Opera, and Ninja Guitar.

No Name is actually the Vampillia drummer playing along to some cool lounge jazz stylings. When I say playing along I mean over the top of. Very good he is. But Rational Academy were left with only 15 minutes to play and Laurence English played for a similar time and got so excited he broke his Macs screen.

Merry Christmas to all my visitors. Last show of 2009 will be Dave McCormack's Supa Happy Fun Day show with Seja and Gentle Ben as supports. The New Year kicks off on Jan 1 with Roots Manuva and then a bunch of festivals like Laneway and Sunset Sounds. No BDO in 2010 for me. Seriously, Muse?? Again?? Anyway have a happy and safe holiday season wherever you are.
